I have a week's holiday next week, Handsome does too because it's the October half-term. We have some plans - decorating and such-like.
However, today my weekly library run came in, with all the books I had marked as things I wanted to read. All of them, at once! If the Amazon thingy was working I'd put them all in the sidebar, but it isn't, so I can't.
I already had the new Terry Pratchett, but now I've got the new Sarah Waters, Audrey Nifflinger, Laurie R King and Christopher Brookmyre as well. And some other stuff too....
I'd probably just get in the way helping with the decorating, I'm sure Handsome will do much better on his own. I could even read to him while he paints.
Handsome is unwell today (and the way it looks, probably tomorrow as well), so he stayed at home to nurse his putrid sore throat. Just now he's dozing in front of car programmes on Dive Dave, Mouse is playing Lego Indiana Jones on the Xbox (I found it hard to believe that such a game existed), and I have been roaming the house trying to find somewhere quiet to read. It looks like I'm left with either the kitchen or the bedroom - the kitchen has uncomfortable chairs and the bedroom has an unmade bed, because Handsome's been in it most of the day, and piles of clothes to put away which will make me feel guilty if I don't do it. Perhaps I won't read tonight.
Sorry, too busy reading to blog (got it, got it, got it), and anyway, I don't want to remember the three hour cycle ride in the torrential rain last weekend
We only did it so that Handsome could try out his new bike rack...
Got home from work tonight to be met by Hairy MacLairy, telling me in an immensely serious voice, that he thought we had a problem. We? As he hobbled into the kitchen, where I could actually see him, the problem became more obvious - his little toe on his right foot was swollen and bent nearly at right angles to the rest of his foot... He admitted that it hurt a bit too!
However, he fully deserves at least some pain, because he did it kicking his younger brother! Mouse is absolutely fine, not a mark on him, which just proves that he has bones of steel. Furthermore, he will get his revenge, when he delightedly tells everyone at school tomorrow.
Ten minutes later, having borrowed one of his father's sandals (his don't undo) we were on the way to A&E (back to Wishaw again). I took the precaution of picking up two books this time.
When we signed in at the hospital reception, there was a scrolling red banner behind the desk that said WAITING TIME CURRENTLY THREE HOURS, I think I would have preferred not to know.
We sat and read our books, and watched people come and go, and waited patiently with a brief chocolate break until he was finally seen - he had to explain twice (once to the triage nurse and once to the doctor) exactly what he'd done. He was really quite embarrassed by it by now (good). Then the nurse had to try and straighten his toe before they taped it. He made some 'oh golly gosh that hurts a bit' noises before they got it there, but was mostly brave.Braver than I would have been, you could actually hear crunchy noises.
And then we got to go and wait in a different queue at X-ray, so they could see if it was all lined up right, which thankfully it was. The X-ray showed up the break beautifully - two lines right across the toe, with about a 30 to 35 degree angle between them.
And then finally, he got to limp back to the car, and we came home for dinner - which Handsome had waiting for us. I have spent more time in hospital A&E waiting rooms with Handsome, Hairy and Mouse than I spent in hospital having the kids - and I'm supposed to be the accident-prone clumsy one?
